The Water Access Treatment and Reuse Alliance (WATR Alliance) has submitted a petition to the New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission proposing updates to state regulations that govern the use of treated produced water. These proposed amendments to Part 8 of the New Mexico Administrative Code aim to clarify how treated produced water can be safely used or discharged, in alignment with the Produced Water Act and recent changes to the Water Quality Act. The updates are designed to supplement existing protections for ground and surface water while supporting responsible water reuse across New Mexico.
